There is nothing better than a jazz singer singing about the woes of love and a string quartet accompanying her, playing the emotional and portraying the different stages of a break-up and love.
Comprising some of the most exciting musical talent from a new generation of international instrumentalists, Manchester Collective makes their debut at HOME with a musical exploration of love and loss.
With real love letters and spoken stories, which were submitted to the Manchester Collective from the public, the mixture of live musical cabaret songs, spoken word and instrumental music, the Manchester Collective pull at the heartstrings of the audience.
With songs by Nina Simone and Judy Garland, as well as tracks by Elbow, the music and words are beautifully sung and expressed by the talented and soulfull singer Nishla Smith together with Manchester Collective. Smith’s tone is similar to that of Barbra Streinsand, and her expression in the music really had the audience holding back the tears in the moving song Dear Abigail.
