Review | Kinky Boots The Musical | Manchester Opera House

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fun, sexy, and sassy – the award-winning Kinky Boots has landed in Manchester!

When struggling factory owner Charlie is forced to close, the only thing that can save the workers and the factory is a 6-foot drag queen Lola. With her entourage of Angels, Lola brings a bit of color and change to the dreary town of Northampton.

The show didn’t start properly until Callum Francis made his entrance as the sassy and unforgettable Lola. Francis’ pitch-perfect and strong vocals do not waiver when strutting and dancing around the stage in 6-inch stilettos. His stage presence is electrifying and he captures the audience’s hearts and souls from the start, especially in his dramatic and beautiful ballad “Hold Me In Your Heart.”

Joel Harper-Jackson’s portrayal of hopeless Charlie is sweet, with great comic timing. His relationship with the hilarious Lauren (played wonderfully by Paula Lane) who expresses her love for him in a brilliantly written 80s pop love song, “The History of Wrong Guys.”

The cast never stops, and I have to point out how fabulously the angels can strut and dance in those heels! “The Sex is in the Heels” has to be one of my favourite numbers in the show, with all the cast embracing their inner divas.

Closing Act 1 is the famous conveyor belt scene “Everybody Say Yeah” where performers launch themselves around the stage on the moving set, all while still looking fabulous!

An incredibly witty and entertaining script (written by Harvey Firestein) accompanies the 80s inspired tracks written by the pop legend Cyndi Lauper.

A great night out for all the family, which will dazzle you into believing you too could dance in 6-inch stilettos!

Catch Kinky Boots at the Opera House until Saturday 1st Dec, and book tickets here.
