Hello. My name is Jess, and thank you for visiting my little blog.
I caught the travel bug when I took part in an exchange year at university in 2019, where I studied for one year in Buffalo, New York. Then 2020 hit, and the world was forced into lockdown, and I had to end my year abroad early and come home to the UK. It’s the classic thing of when you aren’t allowed to do something, you want to do it even more. Being stuck in my house, I planned all the trips and places I wanted to see once the world was allowed to travel again. As soon as I finished my journalism degree, I started my solo female travels across the globe.
Since 2021, I’ve been living out of my suitcase, enjoying new adventures and working weird and random jobs across the world, hence the name of the blog.
I would say my style of travel is broke and boujee, saving money where I can but enjoying experiences wherever I am. I love food and coffee, so expect many recommendations for trying new places. I love staying in hostels, and some of my best friends are people I met staying in a dorm room.
Sadly, you will NEVER catch me travelling with a giant backpack – I am an Away Bigger Carry-On suitcase kind of girl. I wear UK size 9 feet and UK size 16/18 clothes, so I need a bit more space for my stuff.
Through this travel blog, I hope you get inspired to see what’s out there, further than your home town or closest city, and find a new adventurous and curious nature that makes you want to explore new places and try new things. I am not the perfect traveller, and sometimes I think, “Why will someone listen to me?” (Imposter syndrome – it gets to us all). But even if you take away a handful of tips and tricks, I’ll be grateful. I will be sharing destination guides, travel tips, best and worst hostel experiences and packing lists, to name a few.
As mentioned above, I studied multimedia journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University. While I may not use my degree with a day-to-day job, I enjoy writing, photography and videography. I hope you enjoy engaging with my content, and please share with friends who will also be interested.
Hundreds of fantastic travel blogs are online, so why read mine? Well, I’m definitely not perfect, but I am a ball of fun; I laugh a lot, and I will always be the person who gets up to karaoke, twerking in a dance-off or slaying in a lip-sync battle. These attributes make me a hilarious person to hang out with and, hopefully, read about my adventures too. I am a solo female traveller, so I will also emphasise staying safe and making the most out of travelling alone (I prefer travelling alone to travelling with others).
As well as travelling, I love reading on my Kindle (the best option for book-loving travellers), cosying up on the couch with a big fluffy blanket, and binge-watching a Harry Potter marathon (this happens at least twice a year). I’m happy to say I am a bit of a homebody when it comes to chilling and relaxing. I love nothing better than an early night in (OK, I’m sounding like an old lady now). However, I also LOVE a bottomless brunch (specifically if it’s themed) and dancing the night away with my girlfriends.
I would love to connect with my readers and build a strong community of like-minded travellers. Please share my blog and socials with anyone you think would benefit from looking at them – a fellow traveller or an aspiring traveller who is scared to start, for example. My socials are linked below, so please go and follow them to keep up-to-date with all my travels and adventures. Also, pop your email into the subscribe button to get all my newsletters and updates.
Thank you so much for landing on my website, and I can’t wait to connect and learn about all your adventures, too.
Thanks lovely,
Jess x
